Administrative Opportunities

Position: Assistant Principal/DEI Liaison

The position of VCSD Secondary (grades 6-12) Assistant Principal/DEI Liaison is a probationary position that serves as a part of the school’s leadership team and reports to the building principals. This is a full-time (12-month) position. This position is an integral part of the building’s leadership team and will support in the overall administration of the secondary campus including all facets of the daily operations of the school. Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is everyone’s responsibility at VCSD. The DEI Liaison will be a partner in coordinating building/district DEI programs/initiatives with principal supervision. The individual chosen for this position will:

  • Collaborate with school stakeholders in shaping a school culture that maintains discipline and structure while creating a welcoming learning environment.
  • Coordinate and assist in the implementation of DEI practices for all school community stakeholders.
  • Assist with campus supervision and in the development of campus control/security.
  • Support conflict-resolution challenges with the student body, and collaborate with the building’s administrative team to develop and facilitate appropriate restorative practices and procedures resulting in meaningful, fair, and effective disciplinary actions for students.
  • Assist in managing extra-curricular activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of the master schedule, (schedule of classes), and student schedules.
  • Assist in the supervision and evaluation for all personnel, both instructional and non-instructional, providing APPR support to the principals, as needed
  • Perform the role of DASA Coordinator.
  • Assist in the coordination of the building-level emergency response plan, the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
  • Perform such record-keeping and reporting functions as the principal may direct.
  • Serve as building leadership in the absence of principal.
  • Partner with building and district leadership to align initiatives.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the principal may from time-to-time assign.

Qualifications

  • School District Administrator (SDA), School Administrator/Supervisor (SAS, or School Building Leader (SBL) certificate required.
  • A minimum of four years educational-related experience/instructional leadership experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of research-based instructional/behavioral strategies.
  • Ability to relate to the age-appropriate student cohort and demonstrate a commitment to their social-emotional, physical, and academic well-being.

Professional Staff Opportunities

Position: Mathematics AIS Teacher

This is a part-time position at Voorheesville Elementary School.

Qualifications

  1. Current New York State certification as classroom teacher (grades 1-6).
  2. Experience in a public elementary school is preferred.
  3. Background/coursework in mathematics is preferred.
  4. Must have the ability to work cooperatively with staff to plan, develop and implement assistance to students.

    Support Staff Opportunities

    Position: School Security Monitor

    The Voorheesville Central School District has an opening for a School Security Monitor at the MS/HS campus.The work involves responsibility for patrolling halls, corridors, lavatories, buildings and grounds to protect persons and property and to enforce school rules. The position is intended to provide maximum security of persons and property while maintaining an atmosphere throughout the school that is conducive to the educational program. The successful candidate will establish rapport with students in order to assist them with their problems or refer them to someone on the professional staff who can help. The work is performed under the general direction of the school principal/assistant principal with leeway allowed for exercise of independent judgment in carrying out assignments. Does related work as required. This is a full-time (8 hours a day), 10-month position.  Benefits are included.

    Typical Work Activities and Expectations of School Security Monitor:

    1. Assist in the supervision of bus-loading areas during student arrivals and dismissals.
    2. Inspect the buildings and grounds and enforce building protocols per safety plans.
    3. Patrol school halls, stairwells, lavatories, courtyards, entrances, parking lots and other parts of school buildings and grounds to protect persons and property, maintain order and ensure compliance with school rules/policies.
    4. Be observant of the potential safety hazards in the buildings and grounds and report any to administration immediately.
    5. Question persons on school premises who are not students or staff. Monitor visitors in the schools, and when observed, assure that each has a visitor pass and a specific destination. If not the monitor will direct/escort the visitor to the main office.
    6. Patrol the school hallways to enforce school policies related to punctuality to classes, attendance in classes and general hallway behavior. Escort students to various locations as appropriate and/or directed by administration.
    7. Conduct periodic inspections of locker rooms, bathrooms, media center and other areas in an effort to reduce vandalism, class cutting and student smoking/vaping.
    8. Report daily to the principal or assistant principal about potential or actual student problems concerning class cutting, truancy, smoking/vaping, vandalism or disciplinary incidents occurring within the building.
    9. Interact with students in such a way as to prevent and/or de-escalate potentially violent incidents.
    10. Assist the administration, when appropriate, in investigation of various disciplinary incidents occurring within the building.
    11. Maintain a daily log and complete an incident report when necessary.
    12. Be present during lunch periods in the cafeteria as directed.
    13. Participate in the development and implementation of district security plans.
    14. Attend school activities both on-and-off campus, as directed, and assist faculty with supervision.
    15. Be an active member of both the District Wide and Building level Safety Committees.
    16. Perform other duties as assigned.

    Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics and Key Qualities of School Security Monitor:

    • Working knowledge of middle and high school age children;
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment in carrying out supervision and security duties;
    • Ability to relate to, get along with and command the respect of young adults;

    • Ability to articulate the problems and concerns of students to the school administration;
    • Concern for the welfare of young adults;
    • Good skills of observation and ability to analyze situations;

    Required Education and Experience:

    High school diploma or equivalency; One (1) year experience in working with student-aged individuals in youth service work, recreation, education or any other activity involving service to youth. Experience with law enforcement or school security is preferred.  Special Requirements: A valid NYS Driver’s License must be presented at the time of appointment and maintained during employment.

    Substitute Opportunities

    The Voorheesville Central School District employs substitute teachers through the Capital Region BOCES substitute registry. Download an application form from the Capital Region BOCES Web site.

    Position: Food Service Worker

    The Voorheesville Central School District has an anticipated opening for a Food Service Worker. This position is 4 hours/day and begins September 2024. The position will be under the supervision of the Cafeteria manager.

    Qualifications:

    1. High school graduation is a plus.
    2. Custodial experience is a plus.
    3. Must be able to take and follow directions.
    4. Must have a willingness to work the schedule that best suits the district’s needs.
    5. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
    6. Good work record and recommendations.
    7. Background check and fingerprinting (as required by law).

    Under the direction of a higher-level employee, food service worker will perform a variety of activities related to the storage, preparations, and service of food. Duties may include but not limited to the following:
    Wash food service equipment, including garbage cans and general kitchen cooking utensils, by hand and machine, using a variety of cleaning substances.

    • Wash storage areas, including food preparation areas, by hand and machine, using a variety of cleaning substances.
    • Store deliveries in appropriate areas.
    • Bring food and other supplies to preparation and serving areas as directed.
    • Clean fruits and vegetables, in preparation for cooking as directed.
    • Cook grill-type food such as hamburgers and eggs.
    • Serve food in the proper portions to students.
    • Ensure students on special diets receive proper food and portions.

    Position: Bus Driver-Continuous Recruitment

    This posting is a continuous recruitment for school bus driver(s) beginning immediately. Drivers work routes for two in-district public schools, and provide transportation for district children going to private schools, to Special Education placements and for district field trips and athletic events on an as-needed basis. Training available for qualified candidates.

    Hours may vary: Generally from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.,Sept. – June

     Qualifications:

    1. High school graduation or possession of GED is required.
    2. Class B license with passenger and school bus endorsements is preferred. Training available for qualified candidates.
    3. Drivers with CDL Class B permit will be trained.
    4. Must have a neat appearance.

    Position: Occasional Substitute Bus Dispatcher

    The duties of a Substitute School Bus Dispatcher include assisting in the daily office operational aspects of the school district’s bus fleet such as, answering calls, and communicating with transportation staff. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, or his/her designee.

    General Duties may include, but are not limited to:

    • Receives calls and messages pertaining to the operation of the school bus fleet by 2-way radio and telephone; logs and forwards calls as appropriate
    • Dispatches bus fleet and drivers/personnel by 2-way radio or telephone and logs calls as appropriate

      Position: Bus Monitor

      The Voorheesville Central School District has an opening for a bus monitor. Responsibilities include assisting and monitoring students. This person will work under the supervision of the bus driver and transportation supervisor. Person chosen for this position will be required to undergo training on a medical device and take the 10 hour training.

      STARTING DATE: Immediately
      SALARY: per UEV Contract 
      HOURS:  4 hours each day, (2 hours a.m., 2 hours p.m.)

      Athletics Opportunities

      At various times throughout the year, Voorheesville Central School District will accept applications for coaching positions at Clayton A. Bouton High School and Voorheesville Middle School. Experience as a coach in a public high school setting is preferred.

      Seasonal practices are usually held daily between 3-5:30 p.m. Coaching credentials, including Coaching CPR/First Aid and Concussion Management, are required. Successful candidates must have physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. All coaches report to the Athletic Director.

      The salary for a coaching position is based on the current VTA contract and the applicant’s experience, as approved by the superintendent.

      Position: Custodial Workers-Continuous Recruitment

      The Voorheesville Central School District has an opening for custodial workers. This position is 8 hours/day; Saturdays as needed. The duties of a custodial worker include routine cleaning, semi-skilled maintenance tasks, and related work as required.  The position will be under the supervision of the Custodial Work Supervisor II.
