Administrative Opportunities

Position: High School Principal

The administrator will be responsible for the leadership related to curriculum, instruction, and management in the grades 9-12 school building. The high school principal is responsible for the ongoing operations of their school buildings, to ensure high levels of student achievement for all students, and to provide oversight and guidance for the administration of all activities/functions within the school. The successful candidate will report to the superintendent and will work collaboratively with all other administrators and staff (both instructional/non-instructional) to ensure the effective operation of the school, achievement of district and building goals, and implementation of the VCSD Board of Education policies and directives.  

Qualifications:

  1. A valid NYS certification as a School District Administrator (SDA) and/or School Administrator and
  2. Supervisor (SAS) or School District Leader (SDL).
  3. At least three years experience in public school administration and supervision, and at least five years successful experience as a classroom teacher at the appropriate level is preferred or such alternatives to the above qualifications the VCSD Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  4. Knowledge of NYS school law, SED regulations, curriculum trends, and current issues in education and administration.
  5. Experience developing strategies to create a supportive, positive learning environment for staff and students.
  6. Knowledge of curriculum development, special education, the implementation of New York State standards/mandates, and creation of an equitable/inclusive environment for all.

Performance Responsibilities:

Instructional Leadership and Curriculum Development

  1. Engage in effective instructional leadership. Articulate a vision for an effective school and translate the vision into goals for teachers, administrators, and support staff.
  2. Work with the VCSD Director of Curriculum to enact VCSD Board of Education district curriculum initiatives.
  3. Coordinate and evaluate curriculum offerings.
  4. Analyze data to ensure instructional effectiveness.
  5. Assume the lead role in the ongoing integration of technology into the high school curriculum.
  6. Collaborate with administrative team to engage in ongoing evaluation of K-12 programming consistency.
  7. Coordinate report card and interim report process.
  8. Act as a resource for students, teachers, and parents in delivering educational and related services to students.

Staff Supervision

  1. Participate in the selection, development, supervision, and evaluation of school staff.
  2.  Supervise and evaluate programs and staff involved in the delivery of specialized educational programs.
  3. Supervise and evaluate classroom instruction.
  4. Develop the high school master schedule in coordination with the middle school.
  5. Serve as a member of the VCSD Committee on Special Education and the Pupil Services Team.

Student Growth, Development, and Supervision

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the unique needs of adolescent learners and high school programming.
  2. Encourages communication between students/parents and the school by establishing and maintaining positive relationships.
  3. Develop and enact a comprehensive plan to ensure all students have the opportunity to be challenged to their highest level.
  4. Supervise and maintain a program of student discipline and consistent attendance.
  5. Monitor the progress of at-risk students. Propose appropriate intervention strategies.
  6. Assist in the supervision of after-school and extracurricular activities.
  7. Co-supervises the counseling program to enhance individual student education and development.

Policy and Facilities

  1. Prepare the school budget and set building policy according to state regulations and local board policy.
  2. Serve as the administrative member of the VCSD MS/HS Site-Based Management Team.
  3. Work with the VSCD Operations/Maintenance Supervisor, Transportation Coordinator, and the Food Service Director to maintain safe, productive, and efficient programs.

Community Engagement

  1. Act as liaison with outside agencies to coordinate student services as directed by the superintendent.
  2. Attends school-sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events held to recognize student achievement.

Facilitate and maintain proactive, positive communication with staff members, students, parents, school organizations, and the Voorheesville community.

    Position: MS/HS Teaching Assistants

    The Voorheesville Central School District has two full-time, probationary teaching assistant positions available on the secondary campus. The teaching assistants will work with building administrators to support students in a supervisory capacity. The salary is as noted in the current UEV contract. This is a ten-month position.

     Qualifications:

    1. Certification as a teaching assistant
    2. Experience working effectively with MS/HS students with a variety of disabilities and special needs preferred
    3. Solid understanding of classroom activities and teaching best practices
    4. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

    General Duties:

    1. Provide support and supervision to students.

    Position: Teaching Aide-Continuous Recruitment

    Substitute Opportunities

    Position: Bus Driver-Continuous Recruitment

    This posting is a continuous recruitment for school bus driver(s) beginning immediately. Drivers work routes for two in-district public schools, and provide transportation for district children going to private schools, to Special Education placements and for district field trips and athletic events on an as-needed basis. Training available for qualified candidates.

    Hours may vary: Generally from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.,Sept. – June

     Qualifications:

    1. High school graduation or possession of GED is required.
    2. Class B license with passenger and school bus endorsements is preferred. Training available for qualified candidates.
    3. Drivers with CDL Class B permit will be trained.
    4. Must have a neat appearance.
    5. There will be a background check, drug testing and fingerprinting (as required by law).
    6. Physical condition commensurate with demands of the position.
    7. Must be reliable and able to work school attendance days.

    Supervisor will conduct a formal review of performance approximately four months after commencement of employment in this position.

    Position: Occasional Substitute Bus Dispatcher

    The duties of a Substitute School Bus Dispatcher include assisting in the daily office operational aspects of the school district’s bus fleet such as, answering calls, and communicating with transportation staff. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, or his/her designee.

    General Duties may include, but are not limited to:

    • Receives calls and messages pertaining to the operation of the school bus fleet by 2-way radio and telephone; logs and forwards calls as appropriate
    • Dispatches bus fleet and drivers/personnel by 2-way radio or telephone and logs calls as appropriate

      Position: Bus Monitor

      The Voorheesville Central School District has an opening for a bus monitor. Responsibilities include assisting and monitoring students. This person will work under the supervision of the bus driver and transportation supervisor. Person chosen for this position will be required to undergo training on a medical device and take the 10 hour training.

      STARTING DATE: Immediately
      SALARY: per UEV Contract 
      HOURS:  4 hours each day, (2 hours a.m., 2 hours p.m.)
      QUALIFICATIONS:

      1. High school graduate
      2. Ability to pass 19A performance test
      3. Good communication and interpersonal skills.

      Athletics Opportunities

      At various times throughout the year, Voorheesville Central School District will accept applications for coaching positions at Clayton A. Bouton High School and Voorheesville Middle School. Experience as a coach in a public high school setting is preferred.

      Seasonal practices are usually held daily between 3-5:30 p.m. Coaching credentials, including Coaching CPR/First Aid and Concussion Management, are required. Successful candidates must have physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. All coaches report to the Athletic Director.

      The salary for a coaching position is based on the current VTA contract and the applicant’s experience, as approved by the superintendent.

      Position: Custodial Workers-Continuous Recruitment

      The Voorheesville Central School District has an opening for custodial workers. This position is 8 hours/day; Saturdays as needed. The duties of a custodial worker include routine cleaning, semi-skilled maintenance tasks, and related work as required.  The position will be under the supervision of the Custodial Work Supervisor II.
