Professional Staff Opportunities

Position: ENL Teacher, K-12

The Voorheesville Central School District has an opening for a full time probationary position for an English as a New Language (ENL) Teacher.  The vision of the Voorheesville Central School District is to create an engaging and supportive community of learning where everyone can participate and thrive at their highest potential. As our population of English language learners grows, we seek a candidate who is knowledgeable, adaptable, and flexible. The candidate should have experience working with students of all ages and English proficiency levels. Salary and benefits are per the VTA contract.  Position begins September 1, 2026.

General Duties

  • Develop language goals based on student needs and use data to target instruction and monitor progress.
  • Coordinate instruction with classroom teachers to ensure student achievement.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Curriculum to strengthen the ENL program.
  • Administer and score state assessments as needed.
  • Act as a liaison between the district and the ELL families.

Qualifications

  • New York State Teaching certificate required.
  • Current certification in TESOL preferred.
  • Experience working with all ages of students preferred.
  • Strong understanding of NYSED’s ELA Next Generation Standards.

Position: School-Year Building Substitute (2 Positions)

The Voorheesville Central School District is seeking two reliable, adaptable, and student-focused candidates to serve as building-based substitutes for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a school-year commitment and does not function as an on-call assignment

These roles are designed to provide steady support for our students and faculty while maintaining seamless daily operations. Unlike traditional per-diem roles, building-based substitutes report for duty every student attendance day per the district calendar and act as vital members of our school community.

Successful applicants will have a primary home base at either the elementary school or the middle/high school campus. To ensure the district’s operational needs are met, these individuals may be reassigned to different buildings as circumstances require.

Daily tasks vary and may include covering for absent instructional or non-instructional staff, student supervision, and providing classroom or operational assistance under the building principal’s direction. On days when specific coverage is not needed, substitutes will be assigned to support students or perform other duties that enhance the effective running of the school.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or higher required
  • New York State teaching certification preferred, but not required
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students and staff
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing assignments and priorities throughout the school day

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide coverage for instructional and non-instructional personnel as needed
  • Maintain a positive, safe, and effective learning environment during all assignments
  • Supervise students during both instructional and non-instructional periods
  • Support the daily operation of the school and student learning through varied tasks
  • Maintain professional collaboration with teachers, staff, and administrators
  • Perform other duties as assigned by building leadership

Compensation:

  • $200 per day
  • Compensation is provided only for days actually worked in accordance with the district’s adopted school calendar
  • No compensation is provided for holidays, recess periods, emergency school
    closures, or other non-work days.
  • This position is not eligible for employee benefits.

Salary: $200 per day (non-benefited)
Starting Date: September 2026

      Position: School Nurse Substitute

      The Voorheesville Central School District is seeking qualified candidates for School Nurse Substitute positions to provide nursing care during the 2026-2027 school year. Salary for this position is $170.00/day LPN, $240/day RN.

       Qualifications:

      1. Licensed RN or LPN.
      2. Experience in school nursing preferred.
      3. Excellent health, work habits, and employment attendance history.
      4. Good college record and excellent references.
      5. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
      6. Fingerprint clearance in accordance with the regulations of NYSED.

      General Duties:

      1. Communicate with parents and staff regarding health needs and concerns.
      2. Administer medication (as ordered by physician) according to regulations and policy, if needed.
      3. Complete and file accident/incident reports as appropriate.

        Transportation

        Position: Bus Driver

        Drivers work routes for two in-district public schools, and provide transportation for district children going to private schools, to Special Education placements and for district field trips and athletic events on an as-needed basis. Training available for qualified candidates.

        Hours may vary: Generally from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.,Sept. – June

        This posting is a continuous recruitment for school bus drivers beginning immediately.

         Qualifications:

        1. High school graduation or possession of GED is required.
        2. Class B license with passenger and school bus endorsements is preferred. Training available for qualified candidates.
        3. Drivers with CDL Class B permit will be trained.
        4. Must have a neat appearance.
        5. There will be a background check, drug testing and fingerprinting (as required by law).
        6. Physical condition commensurate with demands of the position.
        7. Must be reliable and able to work school attendance days.

        1:1 Bus Monitor (1 hr/day, school days only)

        This bus monitor assists a special education student 1:1 while on the school bus, providing supervision to ensure a safe and supportive transportation experience. The monitor works closely with the bus driver to oversee student behavior and safety. Candidates must be willing and able to assist with wheelchairs as needed. Specific training will be provided if required.

        Position is 1 hour/day, 7:45 -8:45 a.m., school days only

        Responsibilities:

        • Assist the driver in ensuring student safety at all times.
        • Attend all required safety meetings and participate in training, including:
          • Emergency evacuation procedures
          • Proper methods for loading and unloading
          • Supporting students with medical or behavioral needs (e.g., epilepsy, diabetes)
        • Build positive relationships with students and families; support student management in collaboration with the driver.
        • Operate safety equipment, including wheelchair tie-downs and lifts, and follow all emergency protocols.

        Qualifications:

        • High school diploma or equivalent
        • Must be reliable and able to work all school attendance days
        • Completion of Bus Monitor Training Course (provided)
        • Ability to work well with children, especially those with special needs
        • Background check and fingerprinting required (per state law)
        • Must pass a physical performance test

        Position: Substitute Bus Monitor

        Position: Occasional Substitute Bus Dispatcher

        The duties of a Substitute School Bus Dispatcher include assisting in the daily office operational aspects of the school district’s bus fleet such as, answering calls, and communicating with transportation staff. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, or his/her designee.

        General Duties may include, but are not limited to:

        • Receives calls and messages pertaining to the operation of the school bus fleet by 2-way radio and telephone; logs and forwards calls as appropriate
        • Dispatches bus fleet and drivers/personnel by 2-way radio or telephone and logs calls as appropriate

        SALARY:  Based on hours
