On Tuesday, May 19, Voorheesville Central School District residents voted in favor of the proposed $36,605,721 budget for the 2026-27 school year by a vote of 70.8% (429) in favor and 29.2% (177) opposed. These figures include absentee ballots.
The 2026-27 school budget increases spending by $2,080,471 or 6.03%, resulting in an estimated tax rate increase of 4.18%. The tax levy increase was at the district’s calculated tax levy limit, or cap. As a result, the proposal needed a simple majority vote (50% plus one vote) for approval.
The approved budget proposal will allow VCSD to maintain educational standards and meet the emerging needs of students. It includes funding for a K-1 special education class that will allow more students to be educated in their home district, in the least restrictive environment.
“We are truly grateful for the community’s support,” Superintendent Frank Macri said. “Because of that support, we can continue to give our students the opportunities they need to prepare them to be productive members of the global society and to value lifelong learning.”
In addition to the budget proposal, voters approved a proposition to purchase one 72-passenger diesel school bus, one 64-passenger electric bus and one 2027 Chevrolet Suburban as part of regular transportation fleet replacements.

School Board Election
Voorheesville CSD also conducted its annual school board election. Voters had the opportunity to cast ballots for the candidate listed on the ballot and to vote for write-in candidates to fill two open positions. After the ballots were canvassed and all votes were counted, the two candidates with the most votes were:
- Argi O’Leary (475)
- Elizabeth Guastella (115)
Both elected candidates will serve four-year terms that begin on July 1, 2026.
