Voorheesville CSD Budget Approved by Voters

May 17, 2022
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Tuesday, Voorheesville Central School District voters approved the district’s proposed $28,146,611 budget for the 2022-23 school year by a margin of 893-208; and elected Argi O’Leary (754 votes) and Robyn Willoughby (743 votes) to serve four year terms on the Board of Education.

Because the proposed tax levy increase of 2.5% or $481,666 is well below the district’s 4.16% tax levy increase allowed under the state’s property tax cap law, the district needed a simple majority vote (50% plus one vote) for budget approval. The proposal was approved by 81% of voters.

Voters also approved these propositions:

Out of 1098 votes cast, 884 voted in favor of purchasing three school buses and a work truck not to exceed $395,000.

Out of 1100 votes cast, 904 voted in favor of creating a position for a high school student to serve as an ex officio, non-voting member of the Board of Education.

Out of 1088 votes cast, 893 voted in favor of the 2022-2023 fiscal year budget for the Voorheesville Public Library.

Out of 727 votes cast, Linda Conway received 511 of votes and will serve a five year term as the library board trustee.

“We are grateful to our community for their support,” said Superintendent Frank Macri. “This budget allows us to maintain all current programs and services and enhance instructional strategies to meet the needs of all learners.”
