TODAY: School Budget Vote and BOE Elections from 2-9PM at Middle School

On Tuesday, May 17, residents of the Voorheesville Central School District can cast ballots on the proposed 2022-23 school district budget, school bus proposition, student board member proposition, and vote to elect two members to the Board of Education, as well as vote on the library budget, and a library board trustee. Polls will be open at the Middle School Foyer from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. All district residents 18 and older who have lived in the district for at least 30 days are eligible to vote.

If you are voting by absentee ballot, it must be returned to District Clerk Jessica Tabakian by 5:00 p.m. today in order to be counted.

The proposed budget maintains all current programs and services for students, while also adding a new section of kindergarten and a teaching assistant due to enrollment growth. It includes a plan for additional staffing at the middle school to support new business classes, and the purchase of interactive technology to better position the district to offer 1:1 learning. When combined with a new reading program and other digital tools, it will open up multiple ways to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners. Other main areas behind the proposed budget increase include the first debt payment for the capital project approved in 2018, and technology upgrades for our PAC and Large Gymnasium in the elementary school.

Exit Poll Survey

This year, voters will have the chance to share opinions about the proposed budget in an exit survey that will be conducted in connection with the vote. All in-person voters will be given the opportunity to complete a survey while at the polls. Survey participation is voluntary and anonymous. Information collected in the exit survey will be shared publicly via the district website before the end of the school year.

Livestream of Budget and BOE Results

Shortly after the polls close at 9 p.m. – the district will livestream the results. Use the password VCSD and this link to watch. Please note, the link will not go live until 9 p.m. The video and sound will start shortly before the reading of the results takes place.
