Students at Voorheesville Central School District recently participated in a Career Café focused on medical and health science professions. The Career Café program, offered multiple times each year, gives students an opportunity to practice professional interview skills and explore careers.

Two people sit across from each other at a table with salad and water bottles, talking near wooden double doors. Each Career Café brings in guest speakers who offer firsthand perspectives. This gathering highlighted several branches of the medical field, featuring:

  • Dr. David DeBonis, audiologist and Professor of Practice at Russell Sage College
  • Dr. Erica Dessingue, occupational therapist and Russell Sage College faculty member
  • Sarah O’Leary, nurse practitioner and school nurse at Voorheesville Elementary School
  • Dr. Sylvia Sossner, OB/GYN at Albany Medical Center and educator at Albany Medical College

A group sits around a round table covered in a purple tablecloth, talking during a meal in a bright room with large windows.Small-group conversations allowed students to ask questions about education requirements, daily work environments, and the personal motivations that led the guests to pursue their specialties.

Career Cafés are organized by members of the guidance department and catered by members of the food services department.

A large group of students and adults stands together for a group photo in front of a wooden display case filled with sports trophies and memorabilia. Tables with purple tablecloths and chairs are visible on either side of the group.
