Voorheesville announces Athletics and Middle School leaders

Voorheesville Central School District is pleased to announce two new appointments to our leadership team: Cathleen Goodwin, Middle School Principal, and Joshua (Josh) Wagner, Athletic Director, Dean of Students and Director of Physical Education and Health Service.

Each of their appointments, which take effect July 1, were unanimously approved by the VCSD Board of Education at its May 5 meeting.

Cathleen Goodwin has spent the last 18 years in the classroom and in leadership, teaching every grade level from pre-K to 12th grade.

“Cathleen has served our district with dedication in her role as Middle and High School Assistant Principal, and I am confident she will continue to support our students, staff and school community in this new capacity,” said Superintendent Frank Macri.

“I am deeply honored to step into the role of Principal at Voorheesville Middle School,” said Goodwin. “Having served as the Assistant Principal for both the Middle and High School, I have witnessed firsthand the incredible talent and spirit of our students and staff. I also know what makes Voorheesville special. My intention is to build upon the strong foundation we have established together, ensuring that every student feels seen, supported and challenged to do their best every day as they navigate their pivotal middle school years.”

Josh Wagner comes to Voorheesville with 26 years of experience in education. He was formerly a Physical Education teacher and coach and has spent 13 years of his career as an athletic director.

Wagner previously served as a Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics for two school districts, most recently at Cooperstown Central School.

Wagner will join the district following the retirement of longtime Athletic Director and Dean of Students Joseph Sapienza.

“Josh brings a wealth of experience to Voorheesville, and we’re excited to have him join our team,” said Superintendent Frank Macri. “We’ve built a strong foundation in our athletic program, and his background and leadership will help us continue to move that work forward in a meaningful way for our students.”

“I am very excited to join the wonderful community of Voorheesville,” said Wagner. “I want to thank Mr. Macri and the Board of Education for giving me this honor and opportunity to serve the students, coaches, faculty, staff and community. I see myself as a caretaker of Voorheesville’s great reputation in academics and athletics within Section 2 and across New York State, a role I take very seriously. I am looking forward to joining the Blackbird family and ‘bleeding purple and gold’.”
