This March, to coincide with Anti-Vaping Month, our middle and high school students heard from presenters and helped spread the message that vaping is bad for your health.
On March 19, the district hosted Steered Straight, a nationally recognized prevention organization, whose presentations focused on the dangers of drug use, vaping and other high‑risk behaviors affecting young people. Parents and guardians were invited to a similar presentation that evening.
The district also launched an anti-vaping video awareness campaign. The project focused on delivering prevention messages in a relatable way, with students hearing directly from their peers. The project also created a valuable opportunity for students interested in media to take part in and observe a professional video production.
The middle school video addresses the health risks of vaping.
The second video, aimed at high schoolers, speaks about how vaping products are marketed to young people.
The finished PSAs will air during morning announcements, reaching students across the district.
The district’s anti-vaping video awareness campaign was made possible through Albany County funding from the 2025 JUUL vaping settlement.
