Students Explore Service at Volunteer Fair

Students, some wearing football jerseys, talk with members of the New Salem Fire Department.Clayton A. Bouton recently held its first volunteer fair, giving students a chance to meet with local organizations and explore volunteer ways to serve the community. It was well attended and well received.

“I like that it shows opportunities for things I can do outside of school,” said C.J., a ninth grade student. “I think it’s a great idea.”

Adult talks with two students at Volunteer Fair.During the event, students spoke with representatives from more than a dozen groups to learn how to contribute their time to make a positive impact. The fair highlighted ways students can get involved in environmental conservation, literacy, emergency services, and other worthy causes.

Korrina Morino stands with students.Korinna Marino, a representative from St. Peter’s Volunteer Services, spoke with many students. In her organization alone, there are multiple opportunities for students to help the community.

“We have volunteer positions in patient care, at the information desk, gift and thrift store, in our ambassador program, and more,” Marino said.

He said he was drawn to both the garden club and the historical society because both match his current interests. But his enthusiasm stretches in many directions. He reflected, “Pretty much all of this is interesting.”
