Incident Response at the Middle School

Dear Parents/Guardians:

I am writing to advise you of a concerning comment that was reported to school officials and of the steps that were taken to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Even though this was an isolated incident at the middle school, we are also sharing this information with our high school families because we are a shared campus.

Earlier today, Tuesday, Feb. 6, middle school students came forward to report a troubling remark made by a classmate. Administration immediately began an investigation utilizing our Threat Assessment Response, Management and Support plan, which includes contacting the Albany County Sheriff’s Office. The student who was reported to have made the comment is being held accountable according to the district’s code of conduct. At no time were students or staff in danger.

If your student has concerns or is upset by what happened today, please encourage them to reach out to a teacher, counselor or another trusted adult in the building.

I am proud of the students who came forward today with information. The safety and security of our school community remains our number one priority. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Drautz
VMS Principal
