The Voorheesville Central School District invites community members to attend the Elementary School Community Construction Showcase, celebrating the completion of several major facilities improvements at Voorheesville Elementary School.
The open house will take place on September 24, 6 to 8 p.m. at Voorheesville Elementary School and will provide residents, families, staff and community partners an opportunity to take a self-guided tour of newly renovated spaces designed to support students and serve the broader community for decades to come.
Among the featured improvements are:
- A new cafeteria space that supports students while also serving as space for community meetings and events.
- An outdoor instructional classroom that expands learning beyond the traditional classroom setting.
- A new arts wing that supports learning.
- A dedicated social-emotional learning room for student support services.
- A centralized office suite that brings administrative and health services together in a more accessible and efficient location.
- A secure vestibule entrance designed to strengthen building security.
Superintendent Frank Macri will welcome guests.
“These improvements reflect our community’s commitment to invest in the future of our students and preserve and strengthen an important community asset,” Macri said. “We are excited to welcome residents to see how these spaces will support learning, student well-being and community engagement.”
One of the improvements may be more felt than seen: air conditioning has been added to address longstanding temperature challenges that have, at times, forced the relocation of classes from overheated classrooms.
The facility updates represent a significant modernization of spaces that had remained largely unchanged for decades. The project improves functionality for students, families and staff while creating a welcoming space for community groups. Community members attending the event will have the opportunity to tour the renovated spaces, learn more about the project and meet district representatives who helped guide the work.
The improvements showcased during the open house are part of the district’s larger $27.2 million capital project approved by voters in December 2022. The project was developed to address facility needs, enhance safety and accessibility, support instructional programming and protect the community’s long-term investment in district facilities.
While the showcase will focus on improvements at Voorheesville Elementary, the broader capital project also includes the construction of a new transportation facility, security updates and energy-efficiency investments throughout the district. Through state building aid, the district anticipates approximately 53% of eligible project costs to be reimbursed by New York state.
