District letter regarding construction work beginning June 14

Dear community members and staff,

Starting on Monday, June 14, Phase 2 of our construction project will commence. Part of this Phase 2 is the renovation of our technology rooms. Our technology wing is off-set and separated from the remainder of the building. Some of this work will be taking place during the school day.

One of the parts of this renovation is removing an outside window. This outside window contains non-friable material that contains asbestos. That material will be removed beginning on Monday, June 14.

All proper controls will be utilized and all necessary precautions will be taken, including measuring air samples and having a full-time on-site project monitor, to ensure code compliance as well as ensuring the health and safety of students and staff in the building. The area will be fully closed off from the rest of the building to limit the chance of contamination.

Non-friable materials such as floor tile, mastic, caulk, etc. are any material that, when dry, cannot be crumbled, pulverized, or reduced to powder by hand pressure, and is not capable of being released into the air by hand pressure. Generally, the risk of asbestos fibers being released is lower with non-friable materials versus friable materials. As previously stated, the materials that are expected to be impacted are non-friable.

If you have any questions, please contact my office.
