Oct. 28 | A letter from the Superintendent
With Halloween only a few days away and the nights growing longer, the holiday season is fast approaching. The Thanksgiving and winter holiday celebrations always offer opportunities to gather with family and friends. Still, this year it is important to celebrate safely to keep the spread of COVID-19 as low as possible within our community.
Our success in keeping our COVID-positivity rate low at VCSD during the start of the year has been primarily due to the efforts we have all made to follow our COVID safety procedures and District reopening plan. Our ability to keep our school and community as safe as possible lies in our willingness to follow not only the VCSD safety procedures but the recommendations of the CDC and the State of New York. When students are not on campus, we ask that parents/guardians adhere to the same guidelines to have a safe return to campus after the holidays.
The NYS Department Of Health released COVID_HalloweenGuidance. In addition to this Halloween guidance, the CDC strongly recommends restricting the gathering size and amount of travel involved with the celebration season.
If you intend to gather, participate in events, and/or travel, please follow the safety protocols to keep you and your family safe and our greater Voorheesville community.
There are a few things to be aware of related to travel to locations on the NYS travel advisory (including hot spots right in New York State). If you travel to one of these other states or hot spots, you will be expected to quarantine for fourteen (14) days from the date you arrive back in New York State. If you are flying, you may be issued an order of quarantine from the State Department of Health. Please visit the NYS COVID-19 travel advisory site for additional information.
I don't share this to dissuade you from celebrating with loved ones; we should never lose focus on the holiday traditions that each of us cherishes. I share this to ensure that you have all of the information necessary to make an informed decision on how you will choose to spend the holiday season and reenter the Voorheesville schools.
Thank you for all you do to support our school community and to create a safe environment for all.
