Sept. 23: Member of the VMS School Community Tests Positive for COVID-19
Dear VCSD Families:
The district learned late afternoon on Sept. 23 a member of the Voorheesville Middle School community tested positive for COVID-19.
We immediately contacted the Albany County Department of Health, and are working closely with the Albany County Department of Health to identify this individual's contacts at the school. The Albany County Department of Health will reach out to all contacts and advise on the need to quarantine and arrange testing for those exposed.
At this time, following Albany County Department of Health recommendations, Grade 6 (only) will be fully remote for Thursday, September 24th. The status of the Grade 6 instructional program will be evaluated after the Department of Health has been able to conduct their contract tracing protocols and the district will notify the community accordingly.
Our reopening plan is designed to reduce risk and helps to control how many students and staff are in one location at any one time. This greatly aids health officials in contact tracing.
Please note that the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other privacy laws restrict us from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. We cannot identify anyone who has tested positive.
Since the start of the school year, the district has been thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting all buildings on campus, in accordance with guidance from the New York State Department of Health and the CDC.
A COVID screening is done for all students and staff members prior to the start of the school day and this will continue. Parents and staff are asked to complete the form at home before they come to school. Your cooperation with this screening and with our COVID mitigation policies has been greatly appreciated and has helped lead to a safer school environment.
Please continue to conduct at-home screenings and maintain personal awareness of COVID symptoms for your children. Visit our Reopening Plan webpage on our website or contact your child’s school principal directly if you would like more information about our health and safety procedures.
Any additional questions, including information about testing procedures, can be directed to the district office at (518) 765-3313 or the Albany County Health Department at (518) 447-4580.
