September 3 | A Letter from the Superintendent

Hello VCSD Community,

Next week, our next educational journey together will begin.

Though this school year will not look like school years in the past, and sure there might be some small bumps in the road such as technology failure, what works and doesn't work in a socially distanced classroom, this is all new to all of us. We will all work together to get through this unfamiliar territory. Please be patient with us during this time, and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

It is essential to mention the district's COVID Screen Attestation.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19 and reduce the potential risk of exposure to our workforce, we are conducting a simple screening. Your participation is essential to help us take precautionary measures to protect you and everyone in this facility. We request you complete this screening every day before entering a facility. Based on your response, you will be informed if you should report to work or enter our facilities.

  • Elementary students/families should submit the form by 8 am on days of attendance.
  • Grades 7-12 students/families should submit the form by 7 am on days of attendance.

The building will run a report at 8 am and utilize our OneCall Now system to send an email, phone call, and text to remind families to submit the attestation (survey).

As we get ready to get back into classrooms, please be aware if your child is showing any of the following symptoms, they are not to report to school:

  • Fever or chills (temperature above 100)
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or Vomiting
  • Diarrhea

Suppose a child or staff member is exhibiting any of the symptoms while on-premises, they will also be sent home ill. The district is waiting for guidance, expected to come out this week, from the Department of Health that will articulate the length an individual will need to be out and what information is required to return.

The safety of the employees, students, families, clients, partners, and visitors remains our top priority.

You can access the COVID self-help assessment app here.

Here are some helpful information to keep in mind

COVID-19 Checklist

Procedures: COVID-19 Daily Health Screenings - Elementary

Protocol: COVID-19 Student Return to School after Illness/Infection or Exposure

Even though things might look different, some things will still be the same. The Kids' Club before and after school program is happy to be back up and running for the 2020-2021 school year! We are working very closely with the district to make sure that we go above and beyond all health and safety guidelines in addition to continuing to offer a program that your children will surely enjoy attending! If you are interested in enrolling your child in the program, please contact the director, Christine Vielkind, through email at TheKidsClubInc295@gmail.com or by phone (518) 765-2043 for more information.

Up on the website is a page called Reopening Information for Families and Staff please make sure to check it out as there are helpful videos and important information on there. Please continue to check that page as it will be updated as the school year progresses.

Lastly, we would like to introduce our new district, Google Website, to our parents. To streamline our students' remote learning experiences, we have standardized the use of Google Classroom, our online learning platform. This summer, the district had a Google team (made up of teachers from each building) develop consistent practices that all K-12 educators will use. The website includes a portal for parents, students, and teachers. Here, parents can learn how to turn on guardian summaries, join a Google Meet, or take a Google Classroom tour.

This upcoming school year will look different, but rest assured our mission has not changed. We have been separated for far too long, and we are excited to welcome back our students, staff, and community. You have all been incredible during this unprecedented time.

Thank you all for your communication and dialogue throughout this process. We will see you soon.

Sincerely,

Frank Macri

Superintendent
