Over the weekend, the hot water heater at Voorheesville Middle School and Clayton A. Bouton High School malfunctioned. This resulted in the flooding of the hot water heater’s room with seven feet of water and partially flooded crawl spaces in part of the building.
While the water has been drained and pumped out, the district now faces a significant challenge. At the present time, both schools have no heat and no hot water. Classes were cancelled in both buildings today and will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, January 28th, as well. Elementary School will remain in session.
We are in the process of making sure the buildings are safe for when students do return, including mold and air testing and running dehumidifiers to prevent mold growth.
Please know that the district is working diligently and aggressively to get our students back in the classroom, and we will continue to keep you updated on this situation in the days ahead. Please continue to watch for SNN messages from the district, and frequently check the district homepage for updates.
