School Resource Officer

At the September 17, 2018 Board of Education meeting, the Board of Education approved the agreement with the Albany County Sheriiff's Office for services of a full time School Resource Officer (SRO) for the 2018-2019 school year.

The District has asked for feedback from parents, students , and community members on school safety in our schools throughout this decision making process.

A Community Forum was held to present and discuss this proposal on Tuesday June 26, 2018.  Representatives from the Sheriff's Department presented the SRO proposal, and VCSD Superintendent Brian Hunt facilitated discussion with the community on this proposal.

The public was invited to a Safety Committee Forum to discuss the School Resource Officer proposal on July 31, 2018 at 7:00 pm in the PAC.

The District Safety Committee asked for feedback from parents, students , and community members on school safety in our schools through a survey.  This survey helped  give our district important feedback on school safety that helped inform our decision-making on safety issues

The first part of the survey addressed the School Resource Officer (SRO) proposal for the 2018-19 school year.

The main goals of the SRO program are to:

  • Enhance school safety
  • Assist in planning for crisis situations
  • Provide information and training to school staff on school security
  • Build relationships with students and school staff to enhance school safety
  • Help to educate our students on safety and security both within and outside of school

The second part of our survey addresses supports for our students’ mental health and social and emotional well-being.

Thank you to those who took the time to fill out the survey.  You can see the results here:
