Mary Poppins High School Musical Awards

MARY POPPINS, the 2017 spring high school musical was a first for Voorheesville in many ways. In addition to a large and talented student cast and crew, record size audience, beautiful sets and costumes, this production was nominated for 8 Proctors High School Musical Theatre Awards in the first ever Capital Region competition including Best Musical, Best Ensemble, Best Actress, Jaynie Parmenter, Best Actor, Carl Treiber, Best Supporting Actress Nadia Ashman, Best Scenery, Technical and Choreographic execution.  To the delight of the community, Mary Poppins actually won the Best Ensemble, Best Choreographic Execution and Best Actress awards at Proctors after delivering a show stopping performance of "Step in Time."

By earning the best actress award, Jaynie Parmenter qualified to attend a weeklong intensive at NYU Tisch School of the Arts where she was coached and taught by some of the Broadway theatre community's finest talents.  She was one of 37 female performers from all over the United States and was joined by 37 male performers, including Patrick Shannon from Queensbury High School who won the best actor in a musical award for his portrayal of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables.
The week, which included seeing the musical Come From Away, lunch at Sardi's and intense singing and choreography rehearsals, concluded with The Jimmy Awards Ceremony live onstage at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway, hosted by recent Tony Award Winner Ben Platt. The audience consisted of Broadway performers, casting directors, agents and others who awarded scholarships and awards.
The show was produced by Christy Rivenburg, directed by Robert Whiteman, musical direction by Mary Abba-Gleason, choreography by Denise Baker, stage managed by Cassidy Danz and conducted by Chris Jantson.
Congratulations to the entire production staff, cast and crew for all their achievements.
