VCSD is committed to helping young people get involved in the election process. By encouraging students to become educated, engaged voters, we help them build lifelong habits of voting.
National Voter Registration Day was created in 2012; its organizers identify the day as “a nonpartisan civic holiday dedicated to celebrating our democracy.” This year, National Voter Registration Day is Sept. 17.
In New York State, students aged 16 or 17 can pre-register to vote under state law § 5-507, as long as they meet all voter registration requirements. These pre-registrations will be automatically registered upon reaching the age of eligibility following verification of the person’s qualifications and address.
Pre-voter registration packets are available in the guidance office and are also available on the New York State Board of Elections website.
