Enroll Now: Driver’s Ed Classes Start in January

It is registration time for those interested in Driver’s Education. In order to participate, the student(s) must be 16 years old or older by Jan. 27, 2025, and have a NYS driving permit. District residents are given first preference.

Please read the following information carefully: 

ABSOLUTELY NO CELLPHONE USE OR AIRPODS, EARBUDS IN THE CAR AND CLASSROOM. 

The program will run from Jan. 27 to June 20, 2025. The class size is limited to 20 students. The first 20 paid students will be accepted into the program.

The cost of the session is $375.00. Payments will be collected through Jan. 2, 2025, or when the class is full. Registration will not be taken over the telephone.

Payment options are: pay online at myschoolbucks.com (under “School Store” do not use “Invoice Store”), or with a check made payable to “VCSD” delivered to the high school main office. **NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN AFTER THE SESSION BEGINS.**

Once payment is approved, students will be required to attend a scheduling meeting on Thursday, Jan. 16, in room 147 from 3-3:30 p.m. in order to establish driving times.

Students must plan on attending class consistently; attendance requirements are strict. For those students who play sports or have extracurricular activities between Jan. 27 and June 20, 2025, please plan accordingly around your drive time every week and every Monday for class. Any absences should be noted ahead of time with the instructor, if possible, and made up later.

STUDENTS MUST HAVE THEIR DRIVING PERMIT OR LICENSE WITH THEM FOR EVERY DRIVING SESSION.  

Driving groups will meet after school once per week beginning, Monday, Jan. 27 at the following times:

 Mondays: 3:30 to 5 p.m.
Tuesdays: 3:30 to 5 p.m. or 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Thursdays: 3:35 to 5:05 p.m.or 5:05  to 6:35 p.m.

**DRIVING SLOTS ARE LIMITED TO 4 STUDENTS PER GROUP**

All students are also required to attend the classroom portion of the spring session which will be held every Monday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 27, 2025.Students should bring their Chromebooks to class. Out-of-district students will have a Chromebook to keep in class each week.

Every student must complete a minimum of 24 hours in the car (six hours of actual driving time; 18 hours of observation), and 24 hours in the classroom. Successful students will receive a New York State Certificate of Completion (MV285).
